[Philmont]: philmont trek4, part 1(b)

Monday, June 13 - Up about 5, broke camp, had breakfast, etc. Went down to the creek for water, had Ranger training in water purification, then off to Uracca Mesa. About 8:30 when we hit the trail, thanks to the in camp Ranger training. About 3.5 or 4 hours to Uracca Masa (your mileage may vary, and will no doubt improve later in the trek, as ours did). Pretty tough climb for a newbie crew (Only 2 of the adults had been to Philmont earlier, and none of the youth). Set up camp and then off to the challenge events. When we left Texas, we had another crew with us, they were on Trek 26. Uracca Masa was one of 2 camps we shared with them, the other being Tooth Ridge on the last night. Good to see all of them again. After lunch we made coffee (had none with breakfast, because we hadn't yet treated our water, so there wasn't much to spare). Supper was black beans and rice, along with 7 packets of corn one of the boys found in the swap box. Corn sure added to the meal. Ranger
 drug out a pound cake and a plastic tub of icing, it was his gift to us, as he was leaving in the morning. Advisor's coffee at the staff cabin in the evening, and then a campfire. Some pretty good story telling.
