I would imagine that economics is also involved. A strip of Micropur
tablets costs more than either a bottle of CampSuds or PolarPur and
those were required to be turned back in. The information on the number
of tablets used might be useful in evaluating the initial allotment or
controlling inventory however. (Do these have a long or short
shelf-life?) I would suspect that somewhere on the Crew Leader's Life,
there is (or will be) a notation of the number of packets issued so that
all of the packets are accounted for.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for controlling expenses and keeping the
costs of Philmont reasonable. And based on the *concerns* voiced by
others on the list some time back, I am pleased to hear that the process
works.
