For now, it's a matter of managing future inventory. Philmont claims to get these tablets for 12 cents each, which is about a third of retail cost. When we turned ours in at trek end, there was no accountability, they simply asked for everyone to be sure and turn in their micropur tablets and empty packets. That, of course, might change. Incidentally, word is that the main reason for the switch from polar pure was the ever increasing cost of the license to buy it. It seems that polar pure is one of the possible ingredients in making methamphetamine, so New Mexico initiated some very expensive licensing requirements.

We were told polar pure was no longer a financially realistic option.
