[philmont] travel plans

I have made this drive quite a few times. It all depends on what you like.
Three days isn't much time for touring, with a 1000 mile drive, you don't
really
have much time to spare. I suggest planning on spending the night in
Williams AZ and Albuquerque.
There is really nothing until you get to the river except maybe Mitchell
Caverns.
Depending on how far afield you want to get:
Las Vegas
Grand Canyon Caverns
Lake Mead
Hoover Dam (definitely worth a stop)
Grand Canyon
Great Falls of the Little Colorado
Meteor Crater
Sedona
Petrified Forest
Painted Desert
Four Corners (tourist trap these days)
Chaco Canyon
Wupatki Natl Mon.
Sunset Crater
Various Navajo and Hopi cultural opportunities on the checkerboard res.
Aztec Ruins
Taos
Santa Fe
Lot's of stuff around Albuquerque, petroglyphs, museums, etc.
Ft. Union

  we have just decided to drive to Philmont rather than take Amtrak from So.
California this July and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on
places to stop we are planning on taking 3 days to get there.
