You're right of course. When I said outside the tent I meant underneath the
tent. It is still
a good idea to have one inside the tent under the sleeping bag. The edges
of this inside
ground cloth can be brought up and around the edges of the sleeping bag by
taping to the sleeping bag. This way if there are any leaks into the tent
from water sitting on the edges of the under the tent groundcloth you still
remain dry. There are different systems to staying dry - use the one that
works best for you. I remember as a tenderfoot Scout learning the reason
for a ground cloth by not using one at all. :-)
