Does any one else have a good or bad experience with this tinkerbellish raingear?
Does it act as a good wind break?
The raingear that I have now I have hiked enough in
At Woodbadge, while wearing my poncho (you know NO rain ran down my jacket and into my pants when we were sitting in the rain during Chapel), an ASM heard that they got ripped up at Philmont. So I purchased a Stearn's Driflex Nylon Rainsuit. http://www.kodiakoutback.com/detail.aspx?ID=638
I did not have the money to shell out for gore-tex. Yex, I know that people will tell me that my Stearns
will not breath I have a reply. "In 1983 when I starting running cross-country we had gore-tex running suits. they repelled water great but since they retained HEAT just as well. We sweated in them like we were running on a clear day in the 80's"
If the froggs Toggs retain heat as well as gore-tex and are fragile then no thank-you!

Wow!! Who paid $70 a set for them?? I have some land for sale.....
I just got an ad from the Sportsman's Guide for the basic Frog Toggs for $19.99/set. While I'm sure they aren't as rugged as a set of gortex or a set of that hot, coated nylon suit, with a little care, I'm sure they will do most scouts a good turn. I also read a review from Backpacker or a similar magazine that was written by someone with the same attitude toward the raingear that you are expressing here, he was amazed at how rugged the suit was. I'm sure it's not as resistant to puncture as coated nylon or gortex, but #1 it's still WAY better than a $10 set of plastic rain gear and #2 have you ever tried to tear open one of those tyvek postal/UPS envelopes?? IM-possible!

Subject: [philmont] Tinkerbell Has Arrived
Well, since I got it going pretty good on the innies vs outies, I thought I's stirr the pot some more.
The Frogg Togg ripoff.
Each year several, maybe a lot of people discover the great lightweight rainwear in the sky called Frogg Toggs.
I know, I know, "they worked for me".
Frogg Toggs are nothing more than glued up scraps of Tyvek left over from building a house.
And you pay around $70.00 for a suit.
For a few dollars less, you can buy a coated nylon rainsuit that will serve you a lot better.
For a few dollars more you can buy aGore Tex nlyon rainsuit that will serve you even a lot better.
And both are just as lightweight as Frogg Toggs.
When Frogg Toggs started showing up at Philmont they had to order more trash cans to hold all of the used up, ripped and discarded Frogg Toggs.
But they worked for somebody. I just wonder what their definition of "worked" is/was. Surely it wasn't keeping them dry in the rain.
There are a lot better rain suits out there. Don't be snickerdoodled.
But if you want to be really cool, go to a campfire program dressed in your Frogg Toggs and Crocks. The staff will think that Tinkerbell has just arrived.
Field that one Pholks!
