Multi-floral down parka? so you took a down comforter off your wife's bed cut a hole in it sewed a hood in and sprayed water proofing onto it? Ok, that does it ! I am going to the Disney store in the Mall and getting tinkerbell on a patch and will present it when I see you at base camp! are you coming off the trail July 1st? ;)

I also have a very nice down hunting parka (NOT $19.99 at the Sportsman's Guide) that, while not in the trash, is now a patchwork of stitched rips and tears due to being worn in the brush (which also included that wonderful import, 'multi-flora rose'.)

Even the best rain gear won't hold up if it's not treated with a little respect. In 2003, our crew leader had a cheap set of plastic rain gear which didn't require any external aggitation to self destruct, he simply squatted to help pick up the log we were making into a rainwater diversion barrier as part of our conservation work and the pants split out from knee to knee. I stupidly thought that my down hunting parka would hold up to being pulled through the brush, which the bits of down that floated around me the rest of that day proved otherwise!!

The Frogg Togg ripoff.

Each year several, maybe a lot of people discover the great lightweight rainwear in the sky called Frogg Toggs.

I know, I know, "they worked for me".

When Frogg Toggs started showing up at Philmont they had to order more trash cans to hold all of the used up, ripped and discarded Frogg Toggs.

In 2005, one of our youth was the proud owner of a new set of Frogg Toggs.....until he put them on in the brush, and immediately tore a gigantic rip in the pant legs....and then came the downpour......
