[philmont] Tinkerbell Has Arrived

I don't have a brand of rain gear to recommend but can suggest that
when you go into the store and see rain gear that looks interesting
feel the fabric to determine if it is likely to hold up.

There is plastic and then there is plastic. Plastic is a polymer and
not all polymers are the same. Polypropylene is a heavier material
(as another poster noted) and should be superior to polyethylene
because the average molecular weight is larger.

Most plastics have stabilisers added to keep the plastic from getting
fragile upon exposure to sunlight but not all stabilisers are either
high quality or have been added in the right amount.

It's probably worth doing an Internet search to get the low down on
any particular plastic rain gear is made from.

It rains often enough at Philmont that getting decent rain gear should
be aimed for.
I would mainly avoid really cheap gear that looks and feels flimsy.
I've seen rain gear that doesn't hold up even with casual wear outside
the home, not to mention holding up on a Philmont trek.

A shake down hike will reveal whether or not rain gear is likely to
hold up at Philmont.
