Our short trek a long time ago, 1993 was a 7-8 day trek. We chose our own
itinerary with the caveat that it had to cover at least 50 miles. I believe
that they require that if possible all treks cover 50 miles to achieve the
arrowhead patch. You will have no lay over days thus be on the move all
days. Including a trek with significant side hikes will make your days even
more difficult ie Baldy. We still did everything else, ie the opening and
closing campfires.

Subject: [philmont] Philmont Short Trek
Our troop has been awarded an 8-day short-trek in August of 2008. My
question is this
1) are short treks the same as normal 12-day save cutting days off the
middle?
2) does Philmont assign your routes, or do you get to decide?
3) can someone who has done one of these short-treks please give me some
feedback so I can have the answers for our committee
Thanks
Jim - Scoutmaster Troop 1829
