I heard that some of the back country showers have
wood-fired water heaters if you want hot water. I have a
few questions:
1. Where are they?
2. How well do they work?
3. Do the crews supply the wood?
4. Does it take long to heat the water?
etc.?
etc.?

We did not use them in 2002, but I did as a 14 year old in 1959. They worked just like previously posted. A couple hours work.
However, if you follow an eager beaver crew with not enough patience, to wait until the water heats, you can add a few pieces of wood to their abandoned fire and enjoy the water they heated for you.
And if you plant the seeds of "hurry or we will miss the program" or whatever it is you hear them talking about "can't wait until" then all the more effective at getting in "their" hot water shower.
There is more than one way to skin a cat.
Been there, done that.
