I've taken digital cameras on my last 2 treks. You're right on not
planning on recharging on the trail - very few current bushes..
My choice for digital cameras has always been on that uses AA batteries.
That way there's no need for proprietary (expensive) batteries. I've had
a pair of AA lithium batteries almost last an entire trek. The lithiums
as almost half the weight of regular alkaline AA batteries.
You may be able to find a non-Sony battery equivalent which may be
cheaper. This question does come up periodically.
Have a great trek!

Subject: [Philmont] Digital camera advice
Friends,
For the last few months I have enjoyed all the advice I have read in
this list serve, and I will try to put it to good use on my first
Philmont trip (Itinerary 13) when I leave this weekend. Thank you.
The one item that continues to vex me is whether or not to take my
digital camera. I am assuming there is no ability to recharge the
batteries on the trail, so I worry about inadequate battery supply. (It
is a Sony camera that requires an expensive Sony battery, not something
I would normally stock-up on.) If you have taken a digital camera and
made it work, I would like your advice.
Thanks again,
Bill Reilly
