[Philmont] Digital camera advice

I would also recommend taking a digital camera. One thing I look for in a digital camera is having a view finder and a display. On long trips in remote areas like Philmont or Northern Tier I turn the display off and use the view finder to take pictures. I can admire my creations later. I've used a Canon S400 on 3 treks and with 1 spare battery I have been able to take over 700 pictures on each trek. I'm about ready to replace it with a SD850IS. The S400 still works fine and it's hanging out at Ponil with my son who I hope will take more pictures this summer than he did last summer. So if you go through Ponil remind Thomas to take some pictures.....

Subject: [Philmont] Digital camera advice

Friends,  For the last few months I have enjoyed all the advice I have read in this list serve, and I will try to put it to good use on my first Philmont trip (Itinerary 13) when I leave this weekend.  Thank you. The one item that continues to vex me is whether or not to take my digital camera.  I am assuming there is no ability to recharge the batteries on the trail, so I worry about inadequate battery supply.  (It is a Sony camera that requires an expensive Sony battery, not something I would normally stock-up on.)  If you have taken a digital camera and made it work, I would like your advice.   Thanks again,Bill ReillyBlackhawk Area CouncilRockford, IL  wreilly@reilly-lawoffices.com-------------------
