I take a Nikon coolpics camera, and keep it in a small ziplock bag,
which is inside of the camera case. I also carry an extra memory card
(for when I use up the first one on day three of my trek!!). I bring
spare batteries, but these stay in my toiletry kit, since all that stuff
goes in the bear bag at night. I hang the camera case on the outside of
my pack, so that I can reach the camera easily, like a water bottle. It
only takes a few seconds to zip and unzip the zliplock bag. In case you
are wondering on the weather resistance of this setup, I have flipped a
canoe in a set of rapids, with my camera and inhalers in a ziplock bag
which was inside of a fanny pack around my waist, and nothing got wet.
