[Philmont] Augmenting and Stripping meals

Wow Joe, you've asked a mouthful and that's a fact. I will try to
address in detail later tonight or later this week. On Point #1, if you
have realistic shakedowns, you will get pre-warnings on any of the many
personnel problems that occur at Philmont, while there's still time to
address them. On Point #2, I have written up my personal training
regimen on several prior occasions, and will try to dredge them up. It
may be illustrative to note that after a killer 3-day shakedown this
past weekend in 90 degree heat and high humidity, I got up at 4:25
(yeah, that wasn't easy), did an hour of hard hiking with 50 pounds of
telephone books, then did a rotating series of 50 pushups (20, 20, and
10), 30 10-second crunches 3x10), and 30 squats (3x10). I have been
doing this exact thing for many weeks now, and I will continue the same
every day between now and July 4th (when we step on the plane),
including at summer camp next week. On late afternoons when I can
(non-Scout nights, non-District nights, non-massive thunderstorm
afternoons), I will also be doing Death Hill at a local park, for at
least 1 and usually 2 hours. What Wally Feuratdo calls "Dr. Bob's Gym".
This is my two-a-day stretch run. They say that "Pain is weakness
leaving the body". Judging from this past weekend and this morning, I
still have lots of weakness to address. It ain't easy trying to turn a
51 year old man back into a 17 year old, but I'm trying! - I know only
too well what "Trek 32" means....

- Bob
