One good Jersey scout story deserves another.
A few years back, Troop 55 of Pitman, NJ took a January trip to our nation's capital to see some of the Smithsonian museums. A parish priest in Baltimore was nice enough to let us have the use of that wing of his facility that had formerly been a school. We had use of some classrooms for sleeping, a full gymnasium, bathrooms and showers and a kitchen and lounge area.
Saturday night, the Senior Patrol Leader made up a duty roster of chores for the Scouts so that we could leave the facility fresh scrubbed in the morning. Later, checking the work, he noticed that the shower stall had not been cleaned. Checking the duty roster, he saw it was Charlie's assignment, and went in search of Charlie.
He found him curled up in his sleeping bag, having turned in long before the other boys. Charlie was shown the duty roster and told to report to the showers and he headed off in that direction. He was later seen crawling again into his bag.
When the SPL saw that the shower had still not been scrubbed, he went in search of Charlie, who blurted out "Clean the shower? I thought I was supposed to TAKE a shower!" He was heard to grumble as he again headed to the shower room that it had been "A waste of a perfectly good shower".
