A 3000 cu in external frame?? That probably does not include strapping your sleeping bag, pad and/or tent to the outside top or bottom. These packs may be large enough. Try loading up all the gear you need for a trip and estimate the food room. There h
ave been several posts from treks about how much everything weighed. If your support system will comfortably carry your load, whatever it ends up being, you may not need a new pack. Try it first and then at least you would know how far short of the mark

I have moved to smaller and smaller packs and lighter and lighter loads mostly by sharing items and not taking every single "just in case" thing I used to.
It is a gut wrenching experience for a hard core "gear guy" like me, but my feet and back have rejoiced.
