Re: [Philmont]: Monocular Binocular

FWIW, I carried a very high quality, lightweight monocular on the first
6 of my adult treks. To my surprise, the Scouts were minimally
interested. I left it home in '98 and '00, after bringing it on our
shakedowns (also done in mountainous terrain) and observing - which
confirmed that no-one would miss it (and nobody did). However, I'll do
the same this year (that is, bring it on the shakedowns), just in case
this Crew feels differently. Suggest you also bring it on your
shakedowns and see if your Crew (and you) are interested or not, and
decide on that basis.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience taking along a monocular or
binoculars on trek?

Also, any "opinions" on carrying such? ............as if Scouters
weren't opinionated enough!
