In addition to being significantly more expensive on a quart for quart
basis, iodine tablets also tend to give a distinctly more bitter and
metallic taste to the water, compared to Polar-Pure. Not a big deal,
one would think, but unfortunately too many Scouts (and some leaders
too) would actually restrict their water intake rather than ignore the
taste - a clear Health and Safety matter. [And as long-time
list-minders will confirm, some people even whine about the taste of
Polar Pure'd water - so you can imagine how they'd react to a
considerably stronger iodine flavor from tablets.]
