1. Polar Pure is better for long, group trips since the bottle can be refilled and used over and over.
2. Tablets expire although they have a long shelf life.
3. If your tablets get wet they can be rendered useless or degrade. With Polar Pur you are working with a saturated solution of iodine so you know exactly what you are adding.
Of course Polar Pur bottle can be broken although that is most likely to happen to the lid, since the bottle is thick glass. I have used both and still do. For large volume trips I use Polar Pur, but most trips I carry a filter and backup tablets in my f
irst aid kit.
For group trips I also carry Providone Iodine in the crew firstaid/repair kit and that can also be used to disinfect water as well as making a wound waching solution. As a matter of fact Polar Pur and Iodine Tabs can be used to make would washing solution
s. I would think about double strength would be about right to ensure they were antiseptic and still not strong enough to damage healthy tissue. Iodine in any form is great stuff UNLESS you are allergic to it!!!
