Polar Pur is great al song as you don't have "stuff" in the water to get out that is too fine to befiltered by a bandana. Then a filter is a god send.
I usually use a filter. If the water is clayey, I filter, if I suspect the water is contaminated by bacteria and viruses I iodine it first, and then filter later which helps reduce the taste. You can also add vitamin C tabs to destroy the taste but not u
ntil the disinfecting is done since it chemically combines with the iodine. When water is not clayey I boil my dinner (and breakfast) water and only filter what I add to my drinking water.
Try the different approaches and see what you adn your crew like best. Just be sure the water is treated PROPERLY and I be you will go with a filter if you ever get stuck drinking flood run off full of clay and colloidal organic "stuff"!!
