Treks do increase in level of physical difficulty as the numbers increase.
I would guess that with the age level of this crew, that they could handle
any of the PHilmont treks with no problem. Since there are a couple of
people in this crew with prior Philmont experience, they should be able to
lend good insight to the rest of the crew in your itinerary selection
process since they know what their experience was like & what the skills of
the other crew members are.
 
My personal method of encouraging trek selection differs from what Coop
proposes. I feel that the activities & camps offered should be given a high
consideration. In my opinion, it is the program along the trek that
separates a Philmont experience from simply putting together a 11 day trek
in the wilderness on your own. A crew can go backpacking just about
anywhere, but you will only get the program experience of Philmont in one
place, so I encourage choosing your trek accordingly.
