Most of our crew are taking our own tents. My tent and my dad's tent are
7x7, 3-season Eureka's that weigh only 6lbs. After we got stronger yet
lighter tent stakes. The 6lbs includes ground cloth. The 7x7 gives two
adults or large scouts more room, and if needed you can fit 3 adults. It
easily can handle 3 younger/smaller scouts. We plan on only using 2 people
per tent. I think we paid $95 each from Campmor last year. We camp a lot
and now have 8 different tents from 1 man to family tents.
I agree that I'd rather trust my own tent to be sealed and problem free
before I trust anyone else's tent.
If your looking for a 5x7 two man tent, I suggest looking for one that has
two doors on each long side, so getting in and out is easier. Not crawling
over your tent buddy. I also suggest a free standing tent. Sometimes
pounding those pegs into the hard ground doesn't work.
By the way, Philmont tents are 5x7 and estimated to weigh 5lbs.
