For those who might be scared off by the milage, I want you to know that
this hike is great. I think the reason the distance was increased to 71
must be that they now include the side trip to PJ and Ute Gulch for food +
a backtrack from Lamberts Mine to Cyphers mine and back for the stomp. Of
course not everyone needs to go on the food pickups. (You need 4 people
with 2 deep leadership). None of us had ever been to Philmont and this trek
provided lots of program and is a great trip and I am glad that they didn't
change it.
One last thing about this trip we liked is that it provides a longer time
in the beginning at lower altitudes than many of the other trips.
