You do not have to take the burros. The Scouts hardly ever want to
once they
find out the burros will not carry the Scouts' equipment.

The burros are allowed to carry just crew gear, tents, food, cooking
pots, dining fly, bear bags, etc. No personal gear or water. It will
reduce the weight of everyone's pack. Our guys really enjoyed their
burro and did not want to return it. By the way, they named it "Wheel".
 (Get it?)

I always say it is a good experience for the Scouts to take the burros,

though...it teaches them what it is like for us to deal with Scouts.
