[Philmont]: Re: First timer questions

And anticipating a similar "first timer question"...

While "crackerbarrel" seems to be an almost univeral term in boy scouts for
gathering to swap stories and share refreshements, in the Philmont backcountry
they are called "Advisors' Coffee". The quality of the coffee provided (and
the method to make it), as well as the availability of accompanying "goodies"
varies widely from camp to camp, or even night to night.

But don't miss the chance to get away from the youth for an hour or so. You
will likely see some advisors on similar treks at several different camps and
be able to swap notes on progress, and even more beneficial, get a chance to
talk to someone doing the "reverse" of your route who has just been where you
are going.

Your first opportunity for an Advisors' Coffee will not be any sooner than the
evening of Day 3 (second night on the trail) and that will likely be the first
time you learn if you have a "sister crew" doing the same route you are, unless
you go around to every crew at your Day 2 camp and ask.
