That has been my experience also but Campmor also sells "brand name stuff" sometimes quite cheap and sometimes not.

I think the real advatage of breathables are that 1) once the rain stops you can continue to wear the jacket and your clothes will dry from your body heat (unless they are cotton!) and 2) they are much more comfortable as wind breakers - if you sweat at al
 l (and you will) the inside of a nonbreathable will get clammy. As to whether ventilation or breathability is more important - that is probaly a matter of personal taste and garment construction. I am a heavy sweater and I like a physical challenge. My
  
I still haven't found anyone who feels PONCHOS are worth the trouble. I have a friend who swears by a poncho and activent combo. Great venting, activent is very breathable but it is two garments and weighs more than my Precip. :)
