After the recent discussion on washing of Thor-Lo socks and Cool Max
polyesters I wrote
Dupont (who manufactures Cool Max) about washing and this was their
response -

Dave, Thank you for writing. We do not recommend the use of bleach or
fabric softeners with Coolmax® for the reasons you listed below in your
note. I would suggest that you contact Thorlo® (704-872-6522) directly to
get a better understanding of why they suggest it.

Coolmax® fibers has 4-channels built into the fiber which allows the
wicking to take place. Fabric softeners tend to "clog" these channels,
which decreases the wicking properties. For a picture of the fiber's
