Here is the response from Thor Lo on using Fabric softener with their socks
I, also, have a Word.doc from them about care of socks but no way to post it

Dear Jason,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding CoolMax (a DuPont fiber) and Liquid
Fabric Softener. CoolMax is a 4-channel hollow-core wicking fiber. The
problem with CoolMax is the channels make it wick really well but they are
also susceptible to clogging. For example, things like dirt, sweat, body
oils, etc. clog the channels and reduce its ability to wick. DuPont says
that you can use 'cationic softeners' (i.e. Downey, Snuggle). But if you
want maximum wicking performance, they say to use no softener.

The sock works in a much different environment than a shirt (or any other
piece of apparel). Durability is much more important with a sock than it is
with a shirt. Liquid fabric softener is necessary to lubricate the fibers
and ensure durability (see the attached Thorlos laundry recommendations) . .

It boils down to this . . . if you want your socks to wick and last long,
use a liquid fabric softener. If you want to maximize your sock's
wicking, do not use fabric softener BUT you will be sacrificing durability.
Based on this information, Thorlo chose to leave the use of fabric softener
on our packaging.

We highly recommend using liquid fabric softener on all Thorlos, including
those with a wool blend. Jason, we hope this has been beneficial. Please
feel free to call us if you need further clarification. For additional
information regarding CoolMax, you may contact DuPont at 800-342-3774.

Sincerely,
Susan Graham
