I don't know that model, but my Garmin had an antenna that I could rotate around. It was not until my trek that I realized how sensitive the antenna was. For example, if I folded the antenna flat against the body as it would fit in the case, very poor signal. If I pull it up, instantly better. This unit was perfect because I could put the unit in my upper side pocket with just the antenna pointing out and have a good signal all day with a few minor exceptions. If you unit is older, it might not be a 12 satellite unit and might have less of a chance of getting a good signal.
I would say that I had good, accurate coverage about 95% of our trek.
One neat thing was standing on top of Phillips and having the signal strength of all available satellites pegged!

Subject: Re: [Philmont]: GPS
Many of you seem to know about GPS so I thought I would ask for help. Last trek I took my Magellan 315 and although I thought I had all set correctly, it only recorded 35 miles. Not possible. I had waypoints set at each stop, and they appear to be correct. I did have it horizontal in a pouch on top of my bag. Any ideas? I hate to waste the lists time on this, but it was very annoying to not have it work right and maybe we can save someone else from having the same problem this year. BTW, it worked great around the neighborhood.
Going back in 2003!!
