Unusual for me, I concur with EVERYTHING David writes about GPS use.

maximize its benefits.

PhilPhriends,

I can't emphasize enough both David and Alan's comments about getting to know
your GPS.

I have been using GPS for ten years now and not a day goes by when I use it
that I don't discover something new. Also, it seems that the GPS information
I have learned gets rusty the quickest and needs refershing in my brain the
most of all the infomration I have stored there. The addage use it or loose
it is very appropriate here.

Most, probably 95%, GPS users don't have a clue to how to use the instrument
to it's capacity. Most just ask it "where am I?" and want to know how
accurate is the data.

Well, if you don't possess the knowledge of how to assimilate that
information with reference to the rest of the surface of the earth, it really
doesn't matter at all where you are or how accurate that location is, you are
simply a bump on a log anyway.

Educate yourself on GPS use by trial and error. Don't leave home without it.
Take it on you daily "hikes" you need to already be doing and play with the
thing. Map the neighborhood, bookmark the place the bad dog chased you and
in short use the thing to see how to use the thing.
