Diane,

We have never stayed at the Cimmarron Inn, but in '01 when we went to Philmont we stayed at Ponil campground, and again last summer we stayed there for an overnighter on our way to SW Colorado with our troop. The campground is nice, there is a large shady area near the creek which is good for camping. When we were there in '01 early one morning the field across the highway was loaded with elk. Last summer in the evening we spotted a black bear heading across the creek behind our campsite. They have a large open area for the boys, where they can play frisbee, volleyball, or any other games. The bathrooms are a little crowded but for 5 dollars a head its not bad. We are going back to Ponil this July when we return again to Philmont. Hope this helps.
