From the FWIW Category: We have two local camping stores here, both of
which offer rental gear, including stoves and lanterns. Both have a
"junk" box of inoperable rental equipment that can be used to salvage
other equipment - kind of like the aircraft boneyards of WWII. You may
want to check your local outfits down there to see if anyone has
anything similar going.
Second idea: If your local District has an e-newsletter going, you can
ask in there if anyone has what you need. Many years ago now, when I
was pulling 111 out of its death spiral, I scavenged for all sorts of
cast-offs, from which I put together full sets of, e.g., tarp poles,
cook kits, lanterns, etc. Might be worth a shot.
Finally, semi-dried out rubber gaskets can sometimes be renewed by
soaking them in fine grade machine oil for a couple of days. We
actually carry a few mLs of oil with us in our Possibles Kit for this
exact purpose. Also worth a shot.
