Brent,
My son served on the OA trail crew last summer. He had a great time. You
can arrange to have both of them picked up by a shuttle bus in Albuquerque,
NM. For about $100 round trip they will get transported from the airport to
the Ranch, and back after their trek. The first thing that will happen when
they arrive is to be put in separate crews. The staff try to split up
friends, etc. The will work for the first week on trail improvement
projects. The second week they get to go on a custom trek with their
newfound buddies. They will also get to partake in some other special
activities that I will not go into detail about. The OA trail crew staff
puts a lot of extra effort into this trek, and it really pays off for the
participants. Let your sons experience theses things, and come home to tell
you. Make sure they bring a notebook to write down their experiences. At
the conclusion of their trek, they will attend a small closing campfire.
They will be presented with the OA trail crew arrowhead patch. These are
worth a fortune on Ebay, but will mean lots more top your boys. My son loves
it when people ask why his arrowhead has a red arrow across the face.
This is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Ask them if they want to
do Rayado next year. One of my scouts did it, and he still talks about it
two years later.
