[Philmont]: Trek confirmation

We got our trek books last Thursday and I delivered the book, map and CD to
our Crew Leader that night. He got together with another crew member and
picked the treks they wished. The crew had already discussed what they
were looking for.

The post card was mailed on Friday, and the confirmation email came through
yesterday. The crew got their first choice, trek 24.

The choice was influenced quite a bit by the scouts who had been there
before (only one is returning). They liked what they had done and trek 24
includes most of the same camps and events as trek 13 did in '99.

We have a troop campout this weekend at Indiana Dunes State park where
hiking is difficult over the high sand dunes. They are planning to carry
their backpacks during the day. The weather forecast is for rain on
Friday. Saturday is a high of 30 and snow. That does not seem to
replicate July weather in Northeast New Mexico, nor the conditions in
Southern Indiana where the rest of the troop will be backpacking this summer.
