I know I've seen some discussion in the past, but I need some more
concrete recommendations. Another advisor and I will be carrying our 35 mm
SLR cameras on the trek. What is the best way or best service to have
prints and QUALITY CD's made from the same roll? Ideally, I'll be using
100 ASA film, maybe print-maybe slide (haven't decided yet), and will want
the ability to make or have made multiple sets of prints and CD's.

Any ideas?

Comments...

For what it worth, I typically shoot about a roll and a half to two rolls
a day while at Philmont, and on vacation. I use Clark Color Labs - drop
the mailers in the mail before getting on the return flight home, getting
a day or two jump and avoiding another run through the airport x-ray
machines (NEVER CHECK FILM) - I know you can request hand inspection, but
my experience is that the inspectors usually refuse, even though they are
'supposed' to do it when asked.

Clark will put multiple rolls (from the same mailer) on one CD (I think
the cost is like $5), but I do not do that for a number of reasons -
usually the images need to be rotated, the brightness adjusted, each roll
is a separate folder on the disk, etc. For 99 cents, they will post high
quality (file sizes range from about 300k to 600k) digital images on the
web and you have 30 days to download them. You can then edit / rename /
whatever to your hearts content. I THEN compile a CD from all the images
(mine and everyone elses).

I have been very happy with their service and cost, and have not had any
problems with the above procedure, except that the images from one roll of
my last vacation were black and white - even they do not know how that
happened - while the prints were color. In all the years I have been
using them for hundreds and hundreds of rolls, I have had two rolls get
separated from the mailer in the mail. They provide a label to put on the
film, and in both cases the file ultimately showed up at their labs and
they contacted me for processing instructions.

Double or triple prints for sharing hard copies are also very inexpensive.
