Over the years, I have bought plenty of gear from the Sportsman's Guide. My
advice is to stick to the name brand items, such as Kelty, MSR and Coleman.
Usually the Sportsman's Guide can get irregulars or discontinued items (when
a manufacturer changes colors or styles and wants to dump the inventory). I
have bought several Kelty sleeping bags for cheap (they've worked fine at
Philmont), as well as backpacks. I used to buy my kids' soccer cleats and
basketball shoes from these folks, as well as jeans, etc. If you are a
standard size and can buy off-the-rack, then you can get some good deals. If
you're between sizes (12.5 shoe, for instance), it's more of a gamble.
There is a brand called Guide Gear that I would avoid. That is the
Sportsman's Guide's knockoff brand, and it's not high quality.
The company is also very good about return items.
For what it's worth ...

Received a catalogue from Sportsmen's Guide and was wondering if anyone has
any experience with this firm. They have a Ultralite sleeping bag that
weighs 1.5 lbs and is supposedly rated to 30 degrees. If anyone has bought
anything from them, let me know what your satisfaction of their products
was.
