were there no landmarks on which to take a bearing? In t hat case, you'd
really only need one landmark to make your position on the map. The other
landmark would be the edge you came up against.
I'm not saying GPS is useless, but there are ways with map and compass.
Every scout on that trip probably learned that their map and compass is
useless, and they need a GPS. (that's wrong of course)
