Re: [Philmont]: Trek Cards - FedEx ok?

Can't hurt. I have used Fed Ex successfully when things need to get there
fast. The US mail won't gurantee next day delivery from many parts of the
country, but for $3 versus $15, it probably doesn't matter too much.

If you have two treks, you have to have two cards, but they can go in the
same envelope.

Whenever we had two treks, we always requested to travel as "sister" crews,
meaning we both took the same route. When doing so we made sure that we
indicated on both cards that we wanted to be a sister crew and with whom.

All treks have two crews per day scheduled on them. So you are kind of
leapfrogging with someone the whole time. It might as well be someone you
know. However, the campsites are remote enough from each other that you have
to want to go visit the other crews in a particular campsite. On some trips
we "socialized" alot with our sister crew, after dinner, during activities
and such. On other trips we totally ignored each other.

Some advantages to being sister crews are that if there are real problems
with either advisors or behavior of the scouts, you may be able to help. For
instance as the scoutmaster I was able to read the riot act to a scout with
more impact than the advisor of the crew the scout was with, and everything
went well. We have had instances of being able to fix/share equipment like a
broken stove or an odd sized belt buckle on a hip strap. Finally all the
scouts saw the same things, so there was a common thread to talk about at
home, as well as a lack of "jealousy" because one trek was perceived as
"better than another"

Have a Great Trek! Regardless of how it works out. There are NO bad treks at
Philmont!
