When I was there (two years ago), the difference depended on whether you
were at a staffed or an un-staffed camp. If you're at an un-staffed camp,
there are no activities. On some days we hiked through a staffed camp to an
unstaffed camp, and stopped at the staffed camp long enough to do the
activities.
Our two-day was at Beaubien, where horse riding and branding were the
activities. We also did the side hike to Trail Peak while there.
If you've got two nights at an unstaffed camp, I would look for the nearest
one or two staffed camps, or side hikes, to take advantage of activities.

Subject: [Philmont]: Trek Activities
Hi:
A question for all you experienced Philmont trekkers. Many of the treks have
days with no planned activities. For example, trek 21 has a two day break
in the middle of the week with no activities other than hiking. Do the guys
enjoy these quiet days? And view them as a chance to just take it easy? Or
do the guys want an activity every day?
Thanks much,
Mick Meyer
