Good points made by my good friend Dr. Bob. Two one person tents take up a greater footprint that a single two person tent. Some of Philmont's campsites can be rather small, so one person tents can be a problem. In the past, I have shared a tent with one advisor and on one trek shared a Timberline IV with two other advisors. A final point. What do you tell your scouts when they ask if they can bring a one person tent?
