Calvin, I agree with what you say about Wood Badge at Philmont. I did Wood Badge training at Zastrow in '89 and was fortunate to be able to be on staff in 1996 and 2000. The Last Frontier Council use to do a week-long course every other year but have since quit, pointing to cost as the issue (I don't agree).
There was a movement afoot to create a Wood Badge "museum" at Zastrow as an activity before the fire and I know the flags have been saved and put in storage. I don't know what has happened to the course pictures and shovels that were left there but they certainly are part of the history of Philmont.
I believe you can find Wood Badge history at Philmont in a book sold at Philmont call "Black Mountain" (not sure of the title). It includes some info on Walking Wood Badge too.
Between Treks and Wood Badge, I've had my share of memorable experiences at Philmont but can always go for a couple more.
