There are no restrictions on individuals going in consecutive years. The
restrictions are on a unit going in consecutive years for either a Trek or
a Cavalcade. Additionally, it would be possible for someone to
participate in a unit Trek one year and a council contingent Trek the
following year (unless the council places a restriction on doing this).
Remember that a unit can have a Trek one year and a Cavalcade the next
year. Or a Trek and a Cavalcade during the same year.
There are many ways for adults and young people to get to Philmont. Here
are three recent examples from our troop:
C.W. - 1998 Cavalcade, 1999 Trek, 2000 Kanik, 2000 NJLIC, 2001 Rayado plus
he will be a Ranger in 2004.
B.D. - 1999 Trek, 2000 Kanik, 2002 Kanik, 2002 Trek, 2003 Cavalcade plus
he will be a Ranger in 2004.
B.R. - 1999 Trek, 2000 Kanik, 2000 NJLIC, 2001 NJLIC Staff, 2001 Rayado,
2002 Kanik, 2002 NJLIC Staff, 2002 Base Camp Staff, 2003 Philbreak Staff &
2003 NJLIC Staff (that's 10 programs in 5 years).
Then, there is the visually challenged SM who has managed to make it to
Philmont 14 times during the past 15 years:
Treks in 1989 & 1995
Autumn Adventures in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002
Kanik Adventures in 2000, 2002 & 2004
PTC Conferences in 1999 & 2003
Wood Badge in 1998
He would have made a Trek in 1997 except for a family emergency.
And he will be looking for an "excuse" to get back to Paradise in 2005! :-)
