My son & I have MSR 1 gallon bags in the tops of our packs. We also have the 3 each Nalgene 32 oz bags to clip on the shoulder straps. We use the 1 gallon bag first. We usually only hang 1 bag of the 32 oz at a time on the shoulder strap. The others are in a pocket that is easily removed when the out side 1 is empty. This way when we go to a dry camp we have the ability to carry all that we need, or at night to have the extra water for supper and breakfast.

Subject: [Philmont]: Hydration packs or water bottles
I was told that the hydration packs would be bad because you cannt keep track of the amount of water you have left. What do you think?
