Aghhh, Camp shoes......
As has been previously stated, they give your feet a well deserved rest, and
help minimize impact on overused campsites. (Philmont does not use strictly
low or no impact camping, rather they use concentrated impact)

I recommend for my guys the cheap water socks. They are light, have a good
sole, can get wet, etc. Others have carried the more expensive, high tech
water shoes like made for kayakers or canoeists, some of the kids take their
tennis shoes , personally my size 12's make that impractical. I opted for
running flats, very light weight track shoes, only 4 ounces each, but very
expensive. I did get a decent deal at a closeout sale and had to take a real
cheesy lime green color. But after one day in the New Mexico dust, that was
no longer and issue.

The subject or Teva's or Chaco's will come up. I don't allow my scouts to
wear shoes that do not cover their toes, so as to help prevent injuries to
toes. Of course no one ever gets one wearing the things at home, but......If
they are worn, IMHO they should just be worn in the campsite and always with
a pair of socks .

Boots are required to ride the horses, to brand at Clarks Fork and Beubian.
I used my running shoes to rock climb at Cito and on the wall, playing
volleyball and pole climbing. I would have worn them to the showers at a
couple of campsites, but all the water and showers were turned off due to
drought-;)
