Recommend you take both, a 3 liter hydration pack and 2 one liter bottles. Our crew used this last summer in August and had no problems. If you think someone is not drinking enough water, pull the hydration unit out of the pack and look at it. Before we started each morning, we had everyone camel up at camp. This way you knew everyone started with a full stomach of water. If you are at a staffed camp, you can then refill the water bottle as you hike out. It is harder to drink out of a Nalgene when you are walking versus a hydration pack.
