Our Crew used 3 person tents last year. We had 9 Scouts and 3 leaders
and used 4 tents total and it worked fine. Each three person team
divvied up their tent so each scout carried either a tent, rain fly,
poles/stakes or ground cloth or some combination thereof. We let the
teams work out who carried what and they decided appropriately to let
the smallest of their team carry the lighted item. They really did a
good job. We started doing this on our shakedowns and let the Crew
decide on compatible tent mates then. By the time we got to Philmont
all the kinks were worked out and it went great.
