I am allowing myself four advisor comfort items. Five if you count my
personal supply of "Scoutmaster Candy" (aka - Tylenol, Asprin, etc.)
a. Pillow
b. Larger Inflatable Sleeping Pad
c. Tripod Stool
d. Thin Leather Gloves
=====================
a. I used the following pillow from Campmor on our 2002 trek. I sleep
better with my head supported. The pillow stayed in my compression bag
with my sleeping bag and sleep clothes, so there were no problems will
smellables.
"Rainier Lite Inflatable Sport Pillow - Inflate to suit your own
comfort. Rugged, durable and lightweight. Roll it up or stuff it in your
sleeping bag. Inflatable bladder is surrounded by a cushiony layer of
foam and wrapped in a plush fleece cover. Finished size 12 in. x 17 in."
The inflatable bladder and fleece cover are 6 oz. The foam is about 6
oz. I left the foam at home since it was very bulky and saved weight
and saved space in my pack.
=====================
b. I used a 3/4 length Guidelite Thermorest pad in 2002. I am
considering upgrading to a larger pad. I like the light weight of the
3/4, but it was hard to stay on it. I hope to get more sleep in 2004
than I did in 2002. The occasional afternoon nap would be great.
=====================
c. I have several stools. I plan to take a Byer's which weighs 19.4 oz.
I also like the Roll-A-Stool at 22.4 oz. I think there is a short
version of the Roll-A-Stool that weighs 16-18 oz. Everytime we have a
pack's off break I set up my stool. It is great at program and around
camp while the crew cooks, purifies water, eats, etc.
=====================
d. In 2002 the skin on my fingers cracked badly in the high, dry
environment. It became difficult to use zippers and pick up small
objects. I think the thin leather gloves will protect against dust and
dryness as well as help retain oil and moisture.
