I can not comment on this year, but from what I've seen:
FEDEX is not required, but those who have their selections made and
turn around their cards immediately have much better odds getting
their #1.
I FEDEXed twice, got what I wanted. My peers that were as prepared,
did as well whether they FEDEXed or used Snail Mail. Those who
dithered did not do as well.
In the end it does not matter. Few of us really know how one trek
is better than another:-)
