My daughter did two treks in 2002, one last year and had planned four
Philmont activities in 2004 (Council Kanik, Mountain Woman Trek, Council
Contingent Trek, and Rayado), but the council Kanik was cancelled.
There are a lot of ways an individual can experience Philmont, as previously
mentioned. There is also OA Trail Crew and Philbreak, the spring break
service project for college students.
I'd strongly suggest anyone attending PTC take their child(ren) along. For
the high school age, doing a Mountain Trek while a parent is at PTC is
probably the simplest way to get into the Philmont backcountry.
