MessageUse them. Our troop has an assortment of older and newer stoves, and
I weighed them all. If you factor in the weight of the fuel pump and fuel
container on each one, they're all very close to each other, including a
two-burner Coleman Exponent Powermax canister stove (compared to two
single-burner stoves). While the Peak 1s (ours are the older Feather 400)
are 4 - 5 oz. heavier, they're also easier for the scouts to use. Better to
not spend the money on stoves now, and make careful selections with
lightweight backpacking in mind when it comes time to replace worn-out
equipment later.

Subject: RE: [Philmont]: preparing meals
While we're on the subject of cooking...
Our troop owns 6 Coleman Peak 1 liquid fuel stoves
(http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/subcategory.asp?CategoryID=2007),
some have been barely used at all. I know these are much larger than the
Dragonflies of the world, but I have a hard time seeing myself justifying
the purchase of lighter backpacking stoves when we have these fully
functional stoves in perfect condition. Am I being foolish for planning on
using them? Should I change my plans and purchase new, lighter units?
Thanks
